Sansevieria (pronounced sank-see-yee-ree) is one of the most popular and easy to care for houseplants. Also known as Snake plant, Bowstrings Hemp or Mother-in-law’s tongue, it is a versatile succulent that can live for quite some time in the right conditions.

There are many varieties of sansevieria of sansevieria, some of them being more common than others. A few of these plants are well-known for their medicinal properties and some may even produce flowers. Some of them are very tall, but this rarely occurs in home conditions.

For example, there is the ‘Cleopatra’ sansevieria which has dark green leaves forming a rosette with a mix of white and reddish-brown bands on them. It is an incredibly hardy and easy to care for variety that can grow quite tall, up to four feet if adequately cared for.

Another common variety is the ‘African Bowstring Hemp’. It has a more natural look with its long untamed leaves that reach up to 3 feet in length. This plant is native to Somalia, and it produces light yellow stripes on the dark green foliage of this succulent.

The ‘Banana’ sansevieria is very similar to the ‘African Bowstring Hemp’, but it has a sturdier appearance and a more tropical feel. Its leaves are boat-shaped with a rounded bottom and an inward curved topside, making it somewhat resemble the leaves of banana plants.
